An update was required to a 70 year old primary school which required demolition of existing buildings and building new premises.


To validate the planning application, an air quality screening assessment was required.


MGL completed a simple screening air quality assessment. The air quality assessment included the baseline study using the latest Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) Air Quality status report and contour plots by Transport for Greater Manchester.

MGL facilitated the data required from the transport consultant and  prepared a report for construction as well as operational phases as per the significance methodology by EPUK and IAQM guidance.

Additionally, a kitchen was proposed in the new facility so MGL included an EMAQ+ Risk Assessment for the odours from the kitchen.

Action and outcome

The air quality assessment was approved by the local authority with no further revisions required, which allowed works to commence.

The client was appreciative of the quick turnaround and quality of the work.
