Miller Goodall Ltd (MGL) was appointed to undertake a noise impact assessment for the development of a greenfield site in Clitheroe. The site was approximately 1.23 hectares in size and was being considered for residential use involving the erection of 50 dwellings.

Miller Goodall Ltd (MGL) was commissioned to carry out an assessment of speech privacy between two cellular offices and atrium/ circulation spaces within Manchester Metropolitan University Business School. The acoustic assessment was commissioned by the University following complaints received from the users of the cellular offices and surrounding areas. The complaints related to low levels of speech privacy and to high levels of sound transfer between the cellular offices and the surrounding area (and vice versa).

Norville Group, a manufacturer of prescription safety lenses in Bolton, appointed Miller Goodall Ltd (MGL) to undertake an assessment of workplace noise exposure to determine if any employees exceeded the Noise Exposure Action Values defined in the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 (CNWR). This assessment was undertaken to supplement the firm’s ongoing risk assessment procedures in order to analyse the risk of excessive noise exposure to operatives on the shop floor and, where necessary, apply appropriate noise control measures.

Pilkington Group Ltd received planning permission to construct a new coating line within a large new manufacturing facility on their existing site in St Helens, Merseyside. Miller Goodall Ltd (MGL) was appointed to undertake a noise assessment to support a planning application relating to the installation of two new cooling towers associated with the facility. The area around the site is predominantly residential and the cooling towers were to be located close to existing dwellings. The towers were to operate 24 hours a day and so the control of noise, especially at night, was a significant consideration.

Miller Goodall Ltd was appointed to undertake a full design review of a new two storey health centre in relation to acoustics, to enable the credits under BREEAM Healthcare 2008 and the performance requirements of Technical Design Manual 4032:0:3 to be met.

Miller Goodall Ltd (MGL) were appointed by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) in relation to a potential site for a new fire station in Rastrick. The proposed development included new office and crew accommodation, a fire appliance bay, a service yard and associated car parking areas. Its close proximity to nearby dwellings necessitated a noise assessment which identified the potential impact from noise associated with normal operations of the fire station. This included noise from appliances entering and leaving the station, regular training of fire crews on the latest rescue techniques and routine testing of emergency equipment within the external yard.

Salford City Stadium, the new home of Salford City Reds rugby league club, is located in Barton, Eccles, close to the M60 and City Airport. Miller Goodall had been advising Salford City Council on noise and air quality issues relating to the planning application for the new stadium and, as the stadium approached its official opening in February 2012, was appointed to help discharge a planning condition relating to noise from the PA system.

Miller Goodall Ltd (MGL) was appointed to undertake a noise impact assessment to predict the extent of noise reduction following noise mitigation measures carried out at a skate park. The noise assessment was required to discharge a planning condition.

Bolton Council investigated the complaints relating to night-time noise emissions from a large chilled food manufacturing facility, and determined that there was a breach of planning condition relating to noise. After the company were advised by the Council that they considered a breach had occurred, Miller Goodall Ltd (MGL) were appointed by the company to provide specialist acoustic advice.

Miller Goodall Ltd (MGL) was appointed to undertake a noise assessment at the Victoria Inn public house in Bolton, advising on noise control and providing evidence to support the pub’s appeal for a licence.

The White Lion Public House, Withington was granted planning permission for a change of use from a public house to a retail unit at ground floor level and apartments at first and second floors subject to two conditions related to noise. One required a scheme for acoustically insulating the proposed residential accommodation against road traffic noise and noise from the new retail unit.
